Stabbing Attack in Western Sydney Leaves One Dead, Two Injured

(MENAFN) A fatal stabbing incident on Tuesday left one man dead and two others critically injured along a busy commercial street in western Sydney, New South Wales (NSW), as stated by reports.

The attack took place in Merrylands on Merrylands Road, a heavily trafficked shopping area, where emergency services were called after reports that a man had stabbed multiple people before fleeing on foot, according to reports.

A man believed to be in his 30s or 40s died at the scene despite attempts to save him.

A 22-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said.

Police confirmed that two of the stabbings occurred inside a business, while a third took place on the footpath outside.

Officers later arrested a suspect near a house on Smythe Street, and he was taken to Granville Police Station.

"The alleged offender is known to police for petty crime and a number of mental health incidents," said NSW Police Superintendent Simon Glasser.

Authorities have established a crime scene and continue investigating the motive behind the attack.
