Light Aircraft Crash Leaves Three Dead in Southeast Australia

(MENAFN) A light aircraft crashed and burst into flames shortly after takeoff near Wollongong, in southeast Australia, on Saturday morning, killing all three people on board, according to police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).

The crash occurred at Shellharbour Airport, where the plane went down shortly after departing. Emergency crews responded rapidly, and the resulting fire was brought under control by Fire and Rescue NSW.

Authorities confirmed a crime scene has been established as investigations continue.

According to a statement from NSW Police, the aircraft went down shortly after taking off from Shellharbour Airport and ignited upon impact. Fire and Rescue NSW crews later extinguished the blaze.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and is expected to lead the investigation into the cause of the fatal incident.
