Hundreds Evacuate as Severe Flooding Devastates New South Wales
Over 280 individuals were relocated to safety after the Manning River at Taree in the Mid North Coast region reached a record 6.4 meters, surpassing the previous 1929 mark, as reported by a news agency.
Authorities in the region issued 13 emergency-level alerts across the Hunter and Mid North Coast areas, with state emergency services working tirelessly to rescue those trapped in floodwaters and on rooftops. Evacuation centers have also been set up in the affected areas.
A fresh evacuation order has been issued for residents of Redbank as floodwaters continue to rise.
Authorities are urging residents in Oxley Island, Mitchells Island, Manning Point, and Port Macquarie Northshore to take shelter immediately.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for parts of the Mid North Coast, Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands, and Hunter Forecast Districts.
